INDIANAPOLIS - The Patriots will get to play Marion after all.
One of the many cancellations for weather reasons during the spring season was the Jay County High School softball team's April 28 game against the Marion Giants. Thanks to today's sectional draw, they will still get a chance to play.
JCHS (5-5) will play the Giants in the second of two opening-round games Tuesday, May 26, in the Class 4A sectional tournament at Homestead.
South Adams (11-7), which was ranked eighth in Class 2A in the most recent Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll, got a first-round bye and will play host Bluffton in the semifinal round of the tournament Thursday, May 28.
The first game of the tournament at Homestead will pit Fort Wayne North Side and Fort Wayne South Side against each other Tuesday, May 26, at 5 p.m. The Patriots and Marion will follow at 7 p.m.
The winners of those two games will advance to play each other in the semifinal round of the tournament Wednesday, May 27, at 5 p.m. The second semifinal game will be between Huntington North and the fourth-ranked host Spartans at 7 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for Friday, May 28, at 7 p.m.
Bishop Luers and Adams Central will play in the first round of the Class 2A tournament at Bluffton Wednesday, May 27, at 5 p.m. South Adams and Bluffton will meet in the first semifinal game Thursday, May 28, at 5 p.m., and Woodlan will meet the Bishop Luers/Adams Central winner in the other semifinal contest at 7 p.m.
The championship game will be Saturday, May 30.
Jay County has played just one of its sectional rivals during the regular season, losing 3-1 to Huntington North.
The Patriots, who have never won a sectional title, reached the championship game last season before losing 2-1 to Homestead in nine innings.
South Adams defeated Bluffton 1-0 April 23 as senior pitcher Ashton Morgan tossed a no-hitter. It lost 5-4 to Woodlan in eight innings Tuesday.
