JCHS earns a split

JCHS roundup

WABASH — As they did in a late-April doubleheader, the Patriots bounced back from an opening-game blowout to salvage a split.
Jay County High School’s baseball team won its second game 7-5 over the Northfield Norsemen Saturday after dropping the opener 11-1. The Patriots (4-12) also lost the first game of an April 30 doubleheader by 10 runs to Muncie Southside before rallying to win the second game in a shootout.
Chance Fuller led the offense in the game-two victory Saturday, going 3-for-4 with three runs. Landry Inman drove in three runs, and Alex Dunn had three hits and a run.
Dustin Selvey got the win as he struck out nine batters in 6 2/3 innings. Ty Huntsman struck out one for the save.
Jon Lowe hit a solo home run in the opener.
Jay County also had just one hit Friday in a 4-0 loss to Connersville.

Coming off of a career-best 39 in Jay County’s win Thursday over South Adams, Ryder posted and 84 to lead the team. Drew Houck and Evan Mathias were each two strokes behind him.
Ritchie Carducci rounded out the team score for JCHS, which posted a 163 on the front nine, with a 90, and Justen Keller shot 93.

YORKTOWN — The Patriots dropped both of their games Saturday to the Yorktown Tigers, falling 3-2 and 12-2 in six innings.
Jay County (5-8) scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings of the opener to take a 2-1 lead, but the Tigers tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on the rest of the way. Yorktown built a five-run lead in the first two innings of game two en route to the win.
Nikka Chaney gave up three runs on 10 hits in the opening loss, and Rachelle Jackson allowed 12 runs — eight earned — on 11 hits in game two.
Taylor Franklin went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the opener, and Kendra Younger had a double and a run. Younger added two hits, including a triple, a run and an RBI in game two.[[In-content Ad]]
