JCHS girls tennis
MUNCIE - For the second time this week, Jay County High School's tennis team had a chance to reach .500. This time, it took advantage.
The Patriots evened their record at 4-4 Thursday with a 4-1 victory over the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Mariah Clark and Hannah McAbee scored impressive matching victories at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively. Clark defeated Tiffany Sanders 6-2, 6-1, and McAbee topped Stephanie Hiatt by the same tally.
Jay County also swept the doubles matches, with Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp improving to 6-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Aubrey Green and Jessica Arnold. At No. 2 doubles Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman defeated Heather Flowers and Chelsea May 6-2, 6-3.
Megan Adams suffered the lone loss for the Patriots, falling 6-2, 6-0 to Hannah Hollowell at No. 1 singles.
Junior varsity
A pair of shutouts helped Jay County to a 9-1 victory over the Rebels.
Mizuki Saito defeated Southside's Jennifer Lewis 8-0 at No. 3 singles, and Kellie Howell scored her second consecutive shutout with an 8-0 win over Kendra King at No. 4 singles. Other singles wins came from Betsy Knittle, Kayla Martin, Megan McGraw and Melanie White.
The doubles teams of Becky Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman, Brittany White and Jenna Wilson, and Rachel Ray and Taylor Bice picked up victories for the Patriots.[[In-content Ad]]
