JCHS German club holding Oktoberfest (09/29/06)

The Jay County High School German Club invites the public to its annual Oktoberfest to be held Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The event, usually held at JCHS, will take place at General Shanks Elementary School from 5 to 7 p.m. in conjuction with the school's open house.

The club will offer homemade German food, including bratwurst, potato salad, black forest cake and apple strudel. There will also be German music and a German culture display. Admission is free.

Auditions

Jay County Civic Theatre will hold auditions for "Steel Magnolias" on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and Wednesday, Oct. 11. Auditions will be held at Arts Place in Portland and will be at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Roles are available for six women ages 17 or older.

The play is to be directed by Don Enyart and will be performed Nov. 30 through Dec. 3. For more information, call Arts Place at (260) 726-4809.

Library events

The Jay County Public Library will host family fun time on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 9:30 a.m. for infants and toddlers. There will be stories, toys, music and instruments to be shared. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

An after school special will be Friday, Oct. 6, from 2:45 until 4 p.m. for children kindergarten through fifth grade. A snack will be served, stories shared and a craft completed. Registration is required. To register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.

Graduated

Beth Siegrist recently graduated from Ball State University with an associate's degree in science with a major in radiography. She received her license as a radiological technologist and works at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Beth also made the dean's list for the summer session at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Joe and Diane Siegrist, rural Jay County.

Minnetrista event

The program Children Just Like Me will begin Saturday at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie and continue through January. Based on the book "Children Just Like Me," the exhibit examines the lives of 11 children from around the world with life-size cutouts and three dimensional representations of the children's homes and surroundings. Also their different languages, foods, games, pets and clothing will be shared through multi-sensory interactives. Visitors will receive a passport to be stamped after completing an activity at each station.

Minnetrista Cultural Center is located at 1200 N. Minnetrista Parkway in Muncie. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Admission is $4 for children and students, $6 for seniors and $7 for adults.
