JCHS gets 1st victory

Jay County roundup

MUNCIE — The Patriots were winless through three games, and trailing at halftime Thursday.
They found some second-half magic to earn their first victory of the season.
Alex Abbott and Seth Ainsworth each scored for the Jay County High School boys soccer team to lift it to a 2-1 win over the host Delta Eagles.
Delta (0-3) took the lead midway through the first half and held it until the Patriots (1-1-2) broke through with Abbott’s goal seven minutes into the second half. The freshman scored from 10 yards out off an assist from senior Dillon Ainsworth.
Seth Ainsworth notched the game-winning goal with 15 minutes on the clock, converting on a pass from Zane Shreve.
Austin Cowan made five saves for JCHS, which opened the season with ties against Muncie Central and Heritage and a loss to New Castle.

Richmond tops golfers
RICHMOND — Jay County’s girls golf team will try to erase its first road dual match of the season from its memory as quickly as possible.
The Patriots struggled Thursday on a daunting course at Forest Hills Country Club, falling 195-254 to the Richmond Red Devils.
JCHS, which was 3-1 at home, managed just one par and one bogey on the day. Brittany Stevens had the par on the 256-yard, par-4 second hole on the way to leading the team with a 58.
Erin Ingram posted a 45 for Richmond, and Haley Owens and Jessica Cordell each shot 46. All three were starters for the Red Devils last season when the team finished fifth in the state.
Alysia Fennig was one stroke behind Stevens, and Whitney Gray had a bogey on the 128-yard, par-3 ninth hole to finish with a 68. Katlin Petro capped the team score with a 69.[[In-content Ad]]
