JCHS girls stay perfect (05/01/08)

Track roundup

MUNCIE - Jay County High School's girls track team will compete in the Muncie Southside sectional in less than two weeks. If their results thus far at the home of the Rebels are any indication, the Patriots should be excited about the possibilities.

Following Saturday's win at the Muncie Southside Invitational, Jay County returned there Tuesday to score 104 points and defeat Pendleton Heights (70), New Castle (38) and the Rebels (16).

Seniors Amanda Johnson and Erika Hunt paced the Patriots, who boast a 17-0 record heading into Friday night's Blackford Invitational.

Johnson won the 800-meter run with a time of 2-minutes, 34.5 seconds, and she was also first in the 1,600 run at 6:06.7. Hunt set the pace in the hurdles with times of 16.32 and 53.2 in the 100 and 300 respectively.

Jay County also won three of the four field events, with Kelsey Wood taking the long jump at 14 feet, 2½ inches. Lindsey Current was victorious in the high jump at 5 feet even, and Cara Garringer recorded a toss of 33 feet 11¼ inches for first place in the shot put.

Kyle Wellman added a win, winning the 3,200 run in 12:48, and JCHS also took the 4x800 and 4x100 relays.

Roush leads WJMS

DUNKIRK - Megan Roush won a pair of events Wednesday night, leading the West Jay Middle School girls team to a 61-39 victory over visiting Salamonie.

The boys team lost, 73-18.

Roush made an Eagle sweep of the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 12 feet even. Audrey Avey was second, and Megan Sawyer placed third.

In the hurdles, Roush posted a winning time of 20.42 seconds.

Chelsea Easton took the high jump at 4 feet, 3 inches, and Sara Lennartz won the discus with a toss of 72 feet, 4½ inches. West Jay also was victorious in all three sprints with Megan Sawyer first in the 100-meter dash in 14.8, Miranda Gerber taking the 200 dash in 32.39 and Liz Lennartz winning the 400 dash in 1:10.48.

Sawyer, Avey, Paige Alsip and Megan Price teamed to take the 4x100 relay.

Blake Crouch and Tyler Back picked up the only wins for the boys team in the 100 and 200 dash respectively.

Zach Pryor won three events Tuesday as he led Judge Haynes to a tie with East Elementary in the boys standings at the Jay County Elementary Games.

East and Haynes tied for the top spot with 85 points, and General Shanks was third with 79. Shanks won the girls competition with 103 points followed by Haynes (75).

Pryor was the lone triple winner of the evening, finishing 11 seconds ahead of the field in the 400 dash with a time of 1-minute, 20.2 seconds. He was also first in the 200 dash in 31.74 and the 1,600 run at 7:14.

For the girls, Sierra Trobridge and Madison McCormick, both of Haynes, and Andria Henry (Redkey) earned one win apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
