JCHS boys golf

MUNCIE - Now the Patriots have an idea of what their new sectional is going to be like.

Jay County High School's boys golf team went up against five of the teams it will meet in its new sectional group at the end of the season as it finished in the middle of the pack at Saturday's Yorktown Invitational.

The Patriots were sixth in the 10-team field and fourth of the six sectional teams at The Player's Club, scoring a 369. Lebanon won with a score of 310, and the host Tigers were second at 318.

Joe Gasser of Yorktown was the medalist with an even-par 72.

Junior Adam Gray led JCHS, which makes the move this season from the Huntington North sectional to the Monroe Central sectional. He picked up five of his seven pars on the front nine, finishing with an 84.

Kyle Wellman turned in a run of four straight pars on the second through fifth holes as he shot a 93. Adam Horn had four pars in his round of 95, and Jonathan Fennig had three as he finished with a 97.

Chase Wellman finished with a 110, but also had the lone birdie of the day for the Patriots on the 322-yard, par-4 sixth hole.

Among the sectional schools, Jay County was behind Yorktown, Monroe Central (323) and Delta (342) and ahead of Muncie Central (385) and Muncie Southside (411). Other teams in the group are Cowan, Daleville, Muncie Burris, Union, Union City, Wapahani, Wes-Del and Winchester.[[In-content Ad]]
