JCHS golfers improve to 3-0

The Patriots just keep on winning.

For two-plus seasons now the Jay County High School girls golf team has been nearly unbeatable in dual matches, and it added another victory Thursday by a 213-245 score over the visiting Muncie Southside Rebels.

The win gave the Patriots a 3-0 record this year - all of those matches have been at Portland Golf Club - and a 25-2 mark since the start of the 2007 season.

Junior Abby Denney led JCHS to its second Olympic Athletic Conference victory of the week with her low score of the season for nine holes. She recorded pars on the 113-yard, par-2 second hole and the 348-yard, par-4 ninth.

She also had four bogeys to post a 45 and earn medalist honors.

Taryn Beckman paced Southside with a 52.

Macey Gerber, also a junior, put together a run beginning with a bogey on the fifth hole at PGC. She followed up with a par on the 401-yard, par 5 sixth hole, bogeyed the seventh and had another par on the 119-yard, par-3 eighth on the way to a 49.

Cara Garringer matched Gerber with a par on the sixth hole and added three bogeys in a round of 52. Freshman Alysia Fennig contributed to the varsity score for the first time in her career as she had one bogey for a 67.

Brittany Stevens finished with a 69, and Whitney Gray shot 70.

Emily Morris shot 68 for the Patriots in junior varsity action, and Cortney Myers had a 74.[[In-content Ad]]
