JCHS grads join Navy
Taking Note
Jay County High School graduates Brad Geesaman and Cory Hutzler recently joined the Navy. They will leave on Sept. 29 for basic training in Chicago.
Geesaman is a 2004 graduate of Jay County High School.
He is the son of Harley and Carolynn Geesaman and Jim and Deanna Norris, all of Pennville.
Hutzler is also 2004 graduate of Jay County High School. He is the son of Paul and Candee Hutzler, Portland.
TALENT WINNERS
The 24th annual Jay County July Fourth Talent Contest was held Sunday at the fairgrounds.
Winning first place in the 12 and under age group was Charis Beitler, she won $25.
Second place was won by Heather, Hope and Hannah Lugar.
The winner in the 13 and older age group was Heather Manor, she received $75.
Winning second place and $50 was Kari Becktol.
Third place was won by Donna Snelling, she received $25.
The first place winners in both age groups are eligible to participate in the Indiana State Fair Talent Contest in August.
Members of the 1980 fair committee members were honored during the evening ceremony.
Those recognized for their efforts were former president Jack Stephenson, Steve McClung, Eric Rogers, Jim Bruiner, Mike McKee, Duane Locker, Debra Funk, Judy Locker, Debra Smithson and Terry May.
PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW
The Art Association of Randolph County is seeking amateur and professional entries for its photography show to be held at the Railroad Depot in Union City on Thursday, Aug. 5, through Saturday, Aug. 7.
The show is being held in conjunction with Union City’s State Line Heritage Days.
Awards will be giving for best black and white photo, best color photo and people’s choice.
Photos must be matted, but framing is optional. The maximum size is 16 x 20 inches.
There is a $7 entry fee.
Deadline for entry is Saturday, July 17.

CONCERT SERIES
The StarPress Summer Concert Series on the First Merchants Bank Concert Stage 2004 lineup has been announced.
On Saturday, Aug. 21, at 7:30 p.m. will be Oldies with The Grass Roots.
On Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. will be Country/Classis Rock with Exile.
The concerts are free and open to the public.
The series is sponsored by the StarPress, First Merchants Bank, A.G. Edwards, and Old National Trust.

NATURE PRINTS
Use plants, fruits and vegetables to make designs on fabric and paper at a workshop at Minnetrista in Muncie.
The Nature Prints: Artful Science workshop are set for July 26 through the July 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. daily.
At the workshop, they can learn how to use solar energy, or heliographic art to print designs on fabric and paper.
Using items collected from nature, design squares that can be used for quilts, clothing and greeting cards.
These workshop will cost $50 per student with a 10 percent discount offered to Minnetrista members.
