JCHS girls basketball

HARTFORD CITY - Lindsey Wellman missed most of the second half Jan. 13 against Huntington North with a shoulder injury.

X-rays were negative, but three days later in practice she had difficulty shooting.

Still feeling pain, she managed nine points and eight rebounds in Saturday's win over Connersville.

And Tuesday, the junior was completely back to form.

With 24 points, Wellman led the Class 4A No. 6 Jay County High School girls basketball team to its 15th consecutive win, 60-32 over the host Blackford Bruins.

Wellman buried two field goals in every period against Blackford, including a pair of second-quarter 3-pointers. She also hit six free throws and grabbed a team-high six rebounds for the Patriots, who dominated the first half for a 28-12 lead at the intermission.

Brittany Mann, who also nailed two 3-poitners, joined Wellman in double figures with 12 points. She also shared the team high of six rebounds.

Pazia Speed added nine points and three assists, Gina Muhlenkamp had five rebounds and Kaelee Keller finished with four assists.

It was the seventh straight win for Jay County over the Bruins, who became the eighth team to score fewer than 40 points against the Patriots this season.

Emily Wellman totaled 13 points to lead Blackford. Ali Norton hit three 3-pointers on the way to an 11-point evening.
