A building permit for a $2.2 million multi-purpose building/auxiliary gymnasium at Jay County High School topped new construction activity for the month of April.
In all, projects which were issued permits in April totaled $3,179,050.

Investing in plant
Elkhart Products Corp. (EPC) in Geneva will be undergoing a $1.8 million upgrade in its plant this year.
The Geneva plant, which produces air conditioning pistons, produced 4.8 million units in 2007. Production is expected to grow to 6.5 million in 2008 and may hit 12 million by 2010.
Currently the plant employs 135. That is expected to grow to 155 to 165 by the end of the year, company officials told the Geneva Town Council this month.

FCC (Adams) LLC was recognized by Ford Motor Company with its World Excellence Award recently in honor of its work providing high quality automatic transmission clutch assembly components.
The manufacturer employs 65 in its plant in Berne. Both the Berne plant and the Portland FCC plant are part of FCC North America.
The Portland plant will mark its 20th anniversary this summer.
An ethanol merger
Indiana Bio-Energy, which is constructing an ethanol plant in Bluffton, is going to be merged into subsidiaries of Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc., which is based in Omaha, Neb.
VBV LLC, the majority investor in the Bluffton plant, announced the plans for the merger on Thursday. The deal is valued at $383 million, company officials said.
The Bluffton plant is scheduled to go into production this fall.
Job fair planned
South Adams Schools and the Berne Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a job fair from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, in the gymnasium at South Adams High School.
Area businesses are invited to participate with displays and information about job opportunities. For more information, contact the Berne chamber at (260) 589-8080.

E. Roy Budd, executive director of Energize-ECI Inc., accompanied officials from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation on a recent trip to New York to promote Indiana's business climate. The delegation was led by Indiana Commerce Secretary Nate Feltman.
Energize-ECI answers inquiries regarding sites, buildings, and regional information to prospective business looking at east central Indiana.

Old National Bank, which has a branch in Portland, this week opened its first branch in Fort Wayne, a full-service location at 1111 Chestnut Hills Parkway, off Illinois Road.
It employs eight at the banking center and another 130 in its Old National Insurance offices in Fort Wayne.
Old National, the largest financial holding company based in Indiana, has assets totaling $7.8 billion.
May meeting
The American Society for Quality, East Central Indiana Section 904, will have a banquet meeting at 6 p.m. on May 21 at the Muncie Ivy Tech campus, 4301 S. Cowan Road, Muncie, room 533.
The cost of the banquet is $12 payable at the door.
George Howell, associate dean of Indiana Wesleyan University's Leadership Education for Adult Professionals (LEAP) program, will be the featured speaker.
