MONROEVILLE - The Patriots played a pair of close matches Saturday, including one that went to three games. But they weren't quite able to find their first win of the year.
Jay County High School's volleyball team fell to 0-9, taking three losses at the Heritage Invitational.
The closest match of the day was the opener, in which the Patriots lost 25-14, 22-25, 25-20 to Canterbury. They followed with defeats of 25-21, 25-20 to Heritage and 25-14, 25-19 to New Haven.
JCHS coach Fred Medler said his team played well in stretches but had too many critical errors, especially late in winnable games against Canterbury and Heritage.
Senior Kelsey Wood led the Patriots in the tournament with team highs of 25 digs, 12 kills and 11 points. She had 14 digs against Heritage and nine kills in the loss to Canterbury.
Becky Muhlenkamp matched Wood with 11 points, and Lacey Randolph had 20 digs. Ashley Langenkamp put up 17 assists, and Mariah Hornaday recorded 10 kills.
