DALEVILLE — Apparently Jay County likes the close calls.

The Patriot softball team went down to the wire again Tuesday night, edging the Daleville Broncos 6-4 thanks to a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Jay County is now 4-5, with two of the other three wins having come in extra innings.

With the game tied at four, sophomore Trisha Champ started the winning rally with a single to lead off the seventh inning. She stole second, then scored when senior Chelsea DeBoy delivered the big hit with a triple.

Morgan Locke brought DeBoy home with a single, and Shae Keller pitched the seventh inning for the save.

Sophomore Amber Edmundson earned her first career win. She gave up four runs — three earned — on 10 hits and one walk.

Miranda Betz finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base. DeBoy added a single to her seventh-inning triple, and had one run and one RBI, and Champ went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases.

Locke and Erica Murray each added a pair of hits.
