JCHS softball gets another late victory (04/19/06)

DALEVILLE — Apparently Jay County likes the close calls.
The Patriot softball team went down to the wire again Tuesday night, edging the Daleville Broncos 6-4 thanks to a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Jay County is now 4-5, with two of the other three wins having come in extra innings.
With the game tied at four, sophomore Trisha Champ started the winning rally with a single to lead off the seventh inning. She stole second, then scored when senior Chelsea DeBoy delivered the big hit with a triple.
Morgan Locke brought DeBoy home with a single, and Shae Keller pitched the seventh inning for the save.
Sophomore Amber Edmundson earned her first career win. She gave up four runs — three earned — on 10 hits and one walk.
Miranda Betz finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base. DeBoy added a single to her seventh-inning triple, and had one run and one RBI, and Champ went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases.
Locke and Erica Murray each added a pair of hits.
Junior varsity
Jessica Piercy tossed a no-hitter as Jay County rolled over to an 11-0 win over the Muncie Central Bearcats in five innings.
Piercy struck out eight batters in five frames to improve to 2-1. She allowed four walks and hit one batter.
She was also the offensive leader, going 3-for-3 with a triple. She drove in three runs and scored twice.
Dannie Grant had two hits and three RBIs, Anastasia Turner had two hits and Candace Betz scored twice.[[In-content Ad]]
