JCHS students win state title
Taking Note
Jay County High School seniors Kane Bray and Isaac Shawver won first place on Friday at the Ford AAA Student Auto Skills State Contest. They are students in the South Adams Automotive Services Technology program.
Bray and Shawver competed against nine other teams to troubleshoot and make repairs to a ‘bugged’ 2013 Ford Focus.
They repaired the car in 12 minutes — 20 minutes ahead of any other team and had one of only two perfect cars in the contest. The duo also had the highest written score in the state.
They received more than $40,000 each in scholarship money and will participate in the Nationals in Dearborn, Mich., in June.
April students
West Jay Middle School named its Students of the Month for April.
In sixth grade was Ian McCombs, the son of Matt and Kristi McCombs.
In seventh grade was Dena Smith, the daughter of Tonya Smith-Gebhart, John Gebhart and Todd Smith.
In eighth grade was Abby Chapman, the daughter of Robert and Nicole Chapman.
