JCHS takes 12th in a row

CONVERSE — The Patriots opened the season with four losses in their first six matches. Since then, they’ve been unstoppable.
The No. 16 Jay County High School wrestling team picked up its 12th consecutive win Thursday, 39-26 over the host Oak Hill Golden Eagles.
The Patriots racked up five first-period pins, including a victory from Connor Ray (120) in 1 minute, 15 seconds. Eric Hemmelgarn (HWT), who is ranked second in the state, extended his undefeated record with a victory in 1:31.
Also adding pins in the opening period for Jay County were Alex Abbott (113), Jesse Finnerty (145) and Zach Metcalf (160). Dallas Dudelston (126) won by a 17-14 decision.
Junior varsity wins, all by pin, came from A.J. Bryan (126), Levi Hummel (152), Jon Blankenship (195) and Mitch Bennett (285).

East Jay boys roll
The East Jay Middle School boys basketball teams each defeated the visiting Southern Wells Raiders on Thursday. The eighth grade team improved to 6-1 with a 59-34 victory, and the seventh graders won 34-22.
Jay Houck racked up 22 points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs. Ryan Burkett followed with 13 points.
Ethan Myers paced the EJMS seventh graders (3-4) with 17 points. Noah Hummel scored 14 points.

Eagle girls win

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team evened its record Thursday with a 30-21 win over Driver (Winchester). The seventh graders won 23-18.
Kyndal Miller was the only Eagle to reach double figures as she led the eighth grade squad (3-3) with 10 points. Samantha Back added eight points.
Hannah Ault totaled nine points to pace the WJMS seventh grade squad. Kimber Harris followed with seven points.
Chiefs beat SW
PONETO — The East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team dominated the second half Thursday for a 37-10 victory over the host Southern Wells Raiders.
The seventh graders won 27-14.
Britlyn Dues totaled 13 points to power the eighth grade Chiefs, who held Southern Wells to one second-half point. Rebekah Corwin added six points.
Brianna Muhlenkamp finished with eight points for the seventh grade squad. Katie Beougher followed with seven.

McCulloch tops WJ
MARION — West Jay’s boys basketball teams each suffered their second loss of the season Thursday. The eighth graders fell 43-29 to host McCulloch, and the seventh grade team lost 42-16.
Spencer Calvert set the pace with nine points for the WJMS eighth graders, who slipped to 5-2. Andrew Trewyn finished with seven points.
Holton Hill scored seven points to lead the seventh grade Eagles (5-2). Nathan Hamilton added three points.[[In-content Ad]]
