JCHS takes title
Track roundup
MUNCIE — Even with their top distance runner out, no one came close to the Patriots.
Jay County High School’s girls track team rolled to its third straight Muncie Southside Invitational championship Saturday, scoring 141 points as it stayed undefeated on the season. Anderson was the runner-up with 112, and Yorktown was third in the nine-team field with 92.5.
Senior Maria Murphy was the lone double winner for the Patriots, who held defending 1,600-meter run and 3,200 run sectional champion Katie Simmons out of the meet as an injury precaution. Murphy launched the best throw of her career to win the shot put at 40 feet, 3¼ inches, and also took first place in the discus at 123 feet, 3 inches.
Junior Katie Snyder turned in the only other win for JCHS with a time of 13.32 in the 100 dash. Eme Miller was second in both the 1,600 run and 3,200 run, and Ciera Barcus was the runner-up in the high jump.
