JCHS team too much for Fisher, Rebels (01/27/06)

MUNCIE — Muncie Southside’s Brittany Fisher won the all-around competition, but the rest of her Rebel teammates could not keep up with the Patriots. The Jay County gymnastics team took two of the top three spots in every event, with only Fisher breaking in, to roll to a 96.85-87.1 victory Thursday.

Hannah Williams earned a pair of wins for Jay County, scoring a 9.35 on the vault and an 8.55 on the balance beam. She was second on the uneven parallel bars (8.0) and the floor exercise (8.85) for a second-place all-around scored of 34.75.

Fisher won the bars (9.0) and floor (8.95) for Southside to take the all-around title at 35.15.

Kristin Brown was third on both the beam and floor for Jay County with scores of 7.7 and 7.6 respectively. Lacey Thornburg finished third on the vault with an 8.5, and Erika Hunt returned from an ankle injury to take third on the bars with a 7.9. Thornburg was also third all-around with a 31.1.

Kendra Homan and Kayci Ryder each won a pair of junior varsity events for the Patriots.

Stars defeat Central

GENEVA — The South Adams Middle School wrestling team opened its season with a 39-30 victory over the Adams Central Jets Thursday.

Scoring pins for the Starfires were Todd Batt (75), Jordan Landers (90), Josh Ehr (105), Stuart Poulson (110), Nick Taylor (145) and Chris Myers (HWT). John Strike (130) added a victory by decision.

Homan leads Chiefs

Eric Homan caught fire for the East Jay eighth grade boys basketball team Thursday, leading it to a 34-25 victory over Muncie Wilson. The seventh grade team lost 33-29.

Homan racked up 19 points as the eighth graders improved to 9-5. Brad Horn scored six points.

The Chief seventh graders dropped to 6-8 with the defeat. Drew Houck scored nine points, and Aaron Emerick added eight.

EJ grapplers top Wes-Del

GASTON — East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team scored a 54-31 victory over the Wes-Del Warriors Thursday. Picking up victories for the Chiefs were Hai Hong (105), Dyllan Derrickson (110), D.J. Teeple (115), Nick Nuckols (125), Scott Houston (135), Nick Stephen (145), Alan Spahr (152), Dylan Hutzler (160) and Jake Boyer (175).

Flyers top the Fort

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team stumbled in the second half for a 43-37 loss to the Marion Local Flyers Thursday. The seventh graders also lost, 46-22.

The Indian eighth graders led by five after the opening half, but were outscored 28-17 after the break. It marked just the second loss of the season for the Tribe (9-2), and first in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Greg Kahlig scored 16 points, and Nate Wendel added eight.

Fort Recovery’s seventh grade team (6-5) was held without a point in the second quarter as it was outscored in every period. Ryan Schoen had six points on a pair of 3-pointers, and John Homan scored five.

UROC air date moved

The United Rockcrawling and Off-road Challenge (UROC) event held at Portland’s XPLEX Extreme Competition Park during the summer will air in February.
