JCHS teams crush Giants

MARION — The Patriot girls capped their record regular season with another victory while the boys extended their winning streak.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team defeated the Marion Giants 109-68 Thursday, pushing their school record for wins to 15. The boys team won its ninth consecutive meet, 139-28.
Josh Lykins picked up victories in consecutive events to lead the boys team, which is now 9-5. He was first in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.12 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 55.98.
James Keen posted winning times of 2 minutes, 0.51 seconds, in the 200 freestyle and 1:03.82 in the 100 backstroke. Adding individual wins were Sok Vormohr, Connor Daniels, Cody White, Shelby Wendel and Mitchel Rigby.
Caitlin Mark, Laci Hall, Ashley Mark, Katy Smeltzer, Anne Vormohr and Sophie Bader each posted an individual win for the girls team. The Patriots, who will try for their first sectional title in school  history when they host the tournament on Feb. 2, finished the regular season at 15-1.

Girls basketball falls
ANDERSON — The Jay County girls basketball team could not keep up with the Anderson Indians in the first half Thursday in a 68-42 defeat.
Katie Aker recorded game highs of 15 points and nine rebounds for the Patriots (7-12), who trailed by 20 at the half. Catherine Dunn added nine points, and Alex Loy had seven points and seven boards.
Anderson (14-4) used a balanced scoring attack to build its lead as nine different players had at least two points in the opening half. Taylor Potts led the Indians with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Da’Sha Boyd and Darien Thompson followed with nine points apiece.
The JCHS junior varsity team slipped 12-6 on the season with a 40-32 loss. Gabby Hart scored 13 points, and Cheyenne Loy added 11.

EJ grapplers roll
East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team dominated the visiting Wes-Del Warriors for a 72-11 victory Thursday.
All seven of the Chiefs’ wins came by way of pins. Picking up victories were Caleb Chenoweth (90), Kaimen Sanders (95), Dustin Bricker (100), Mitchel Frasher (105), Ivan Hemmelgarn (110), Brandon Resler (120) and Cole Brotherton (145) as the team improved to 6-1.
Ben Muhlenkamp (100), Ethan Solis (105), Troy Frazier (120) and Tyler Leonhard (154) added wins in exhibition matches.

Houck leads Chiefs
MUNCIE — The East Jay eighth grade boys basketball team continued its strong season Thursday with a 40-30 victory over host Wilson. The seventh grade squad fell, 49-21.
Jay Houck racked up 20 points for the eighth grade Chiefs, who improved to 12-2. Jason Schlosser joined him in double figures with 10 points.
Ethan Myers did most of the scoring for the EJMS seventh graders (5-9) as he totaled 17 points. Caden Stant and Zarron Lee had two points apiece.

East Jay tops Eagles
DUNKIRK — East Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball team knocked off host West Jay 31-28 Thursday.
Kendra Muhlenkamp led the effort for the Chiefs with 19 points. Klarisa Hemmelgarn added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
