ANDERSON - Jay County had a shutout loss and a shutout win, then just missed earning a runner-up finish Saturday in the Olympic Athletic Conference girls tennis tournament.
The Patriots lost 5-0 to host eventual champion Anderson Highland in the opening round, then crushed Muncie Southside by the same score in their second match.
They went to three super tiebreakers in the match for second place against Connersville, but won only two in a 3-2 defeat.
Carissa Wilkins and Megan Adams each turned in big tiebreaker wins in that final match. Wilkins took the No. 1 singles match over Tiffany Trompor 2-6, 6-3, 10-7, and Adams beat Emily Coleman 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 10-6.
In the third super tiebreaker match Tiffani Bickel and Jessica Muhlenkamp fell behind 6-1 before battling back to get within 7-5. But, the JCHS No. 1 doubles duo never got closer in a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-7 defeat.
In the sweep of Southside Wilkins topped Hannah Hollowell 6-0, 6-2, Brittany Lewis beat Aubrey Green 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Adams defeated Jessica Dickinson 6-4, 6-1. Bickel and Muhlenkamp knocked off Beth Kimbrell and Jessica Arnold 6-4, 6-4, and in the No. 2 doubles match Megan Knittle and Cindy Muhlenkamp beat Chelsea May and Tiffany Sanders 6-0, 6-0.[[In-content Ad]]
