JCHS wins 1, ties UC (05/21/08)

JCHS boys golf

WINCHESTER - Winchester Golf Club has been a great course for the Patriots.

Adam Gray finished at 1-over-par Tuesday as the Jay County High School golf team posted its best score of the season to top Randolph Southern 158-211.

Because Union City used just five plays instead of six, the Patriots could not use their sixth scorer, and the teams finished in a 162-162 tie.

JCHS (7-3-1) also posted its best 18-hole score of the season at WGC, with a 332 at the Winchester Invitational.

Gray played the first three holes of the Pony nine at 2-over-par, but tore up the course the rest of the way. He parred the 520-yard, par-5 fourth hole, birdied the 442-yard, par-5 fifth and parred each of the final four for his 37.

Taylor Jenkinson of Union City was the match medalist with an even-par 36.

Kyle Wellman, playing in the No. 6 spot for the Patriots, also birdied the fifth hole and followed with three consecutive pars.

He had a par on the 138-yard, par-3 second hole as well to finish at 39.

Chase Wellman had six pars in his round of 40, and Justen Moser had six as he shot 42.

Adam Horn totaled four pars for a 43, and Jonathan Fennig had three as he shot 46.
