JCPL begins reading program (01/10/06)

Registration is now taking place for The Winter Reading Program at Jay County Public Library. The program will be Jan. 16 through Feb. 25 with the theme “Read & Get Fit” and requires participants to read and/or exercise for at least 30 minutes per day.
There will be weekly drawings for those who complete the required reading and exercise time. Also a grand prize drawing will be held at the end of the program from the weekly entries.
An afterschool exercise program for children will be held each Wednesday during the reading program from 2:45 to 4 p.m. There will be exercise, a drink and snack and an activity or story.

Benefit concert
Ken Bantz, a local singer and songwriter, will perform a benefit concert for supplemental energy assistance at Arts Place in Portland on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds will go to Heartlite, a cooperative effort between Jay County REMC and Community and Family Services to assist low-income REMC members with their electric bills.
Individual tickets cost $10 and patron tickets are $25. Tickets are available at the box office at Arts Place, by calling (260) 726-4809 or online at www.artsland.org. Also individuals attending the concert are asked to bring two canned food items for the Helping Hands Food Bank.
The Wishing Wand
The Make-A-Wish Foundation invites children to take part in The Wishing Wand, a Students for Wish Kids school program.
The program encourages students to collect spare change for three weeks between now and April 28. The money will help grant local children’s wishes with life-threatening medical conditions.
