JCPL holding reading contest (11/11/2008)
Taking Note
Jay County Public Library will conduct its ninth annual Get Caught Reading Photo Contest, where entries show a planned photograph of someone getting caught reading in an unusual or amusing manner.
Photographs must be at least 3 X 5 inches and not bigger than 8 X 10 inches and must be matted or framed.
Age categories are six to 10 years old; 11 to 14; 15 to 18 and 18 and older.
Photos must be submitted to the library by Thursday at 8 p.m. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Open house
Fort Recovery merchants will have Christmas Open House on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Fort Recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Claus will stroll through town with treats for boys and girls and there will be carriage rides in the original depot taxi.
Community Carolers will perform in front of Second National Bank from 1 to 2 p.m. and a Christmas story hour and crafts will be held at Fort Recovery Public Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Fort Recovery Museum will have a Christmas open house and there will be pioneer demonstrations, by the Ewry Family, in the log cabin across the street from the museum.
Don't forget to register for $1,000 in gift certificates from Fort Recovery merchants.
Book fair
Friends of the Fort Recovery Public Library will have a book fair at the library on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the Christmas Open House.
Book signing
Alan Garinger, author of "Alone: The Journey of the Boy Sims" will have a book signing at Jay County Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m. The book is a historical novel for young adults. Garinger will give a short presentation at 7:15 p.m. and books will be available for purchase.
Refreshments will be served. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Popcorn for military
The Adams County Community Foundation is providing cans of Boy Scout popcorn for anyone wanting to send it to United States soldiers serving overseas.
To request cans of popcorn, call (260) 724-3939 or e-mail [email protected].
Popcorn may also be picked up Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ACCF office at Second and Monroe Streets in Decatur.
Popcorn is available until Nov. 21 or while supplies last.
Socks for seniors
The Socks for Seniors program is looking for help to collect a pair of socks for every resident living in nursing and retirment homes in Northeastern Indiana area. There are approximately 150 homes with an average of 70 residents each.
Anyone wanting to help needs to decorate a box and mark that it is for collecting new socks for seniors and place it in a high traffic area. Also mark on the box that socks are due by Dec. 14.
Socks may then be dropped off at any Richards Restaurant or at the Holiday Sock Hop at Bearcreek Farms on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m.
