JCPL hosting childrens' program

Taking Note

Jay County Public Library will host a program on Monday featuring Ronald McDonald.
The show will begin at 10 a.m. and will include magic, audience participation and an emphasis on reading.
Children of all ages are welcome, along with an adult caregiver.
The library is located at 315 N. Ship St. in Portland.
The library and Arts Place in Portland are sponsoring a Local Arts Open House on Tuesday at the library.
Work by local artists will be on display from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room and artists will be there to meet and greet. Bids will be taken for a silent auction and there will be complimentary iced coffee.

Health program
A free program “Knowing the Signs and Symptoms of Skin Cancer” will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Meeting Room 1 at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio.
Also a free sun damaged skin screening will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call (419) 678-5615.  

Foundation grants
The Portland Foundation is accepting grant applications from tax-exempt organizations that offer programs to benefit Jay County residents.

Applications are available at www.portlandfoundation.org and are due by July 6 at 5 p.m.  For more information, email [email protected].
Summer scholarships are available at portlandfoundation.org and are also due by July 6 at 5 p.m.
The following scholarships are available:
The Altrusa Club of Portland Scholarship is for women continuing their education or female GED graduates.
The Janet B. Arnold Memorial Scholarship is for Jay County High School graduates who are juniors or seniors in college and majoring in elementary education.
The Dr. Ara C. and Gay B. Badders Medical Scholarship is for students majoring in medical arts or education.
The Ruth Whipple-Badders Medical Scholarship is for Jay County High School graduates who are juniors or seniors in college and majoring in education.
The Alwyn Carder Scholarship is for juniors or seniors in college majoring in architecture, history or education.
The Marseal T. DeWeerd, Edith T. Horn, and Virgie M. Brady Memorial Scholarship is for Jay County residents who are juniors or seniors in college with a preference toward Penn Township residents.
The John Jay Center for Learning Scholarship is for students pursuing a degree at JJCL.
Charles & Ruth Joos Scholarship Fund is for Jay County High School graduates who are sophomores, juniors or seniors in college.
The Robert Quadrozzi Memorial Scholarship is for Jay County residents enrolled at the John Jay Center for Learning.
