JCPL offers databases (12/28/07)

Taking Note

Two databases are available at Jay County Public Library to help with genealogy searches.

Ancestry Library Edition provides users instant access to a wide range of unique resources, including the United States Census, military records, court, land and probate records and church records.

Heritage Quest Online allows researchers to find their ancestors, trace their paths across America and learn what life was like where they settled. Heritage Quest Online may also be accessed at home via the library's website at www.jaycpl.lib.in.us.

Ancestry Library Edition classes are available at JCPL on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Thursday, Jan. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to noon; Saturday, Feb. 16, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Basic computer knowledge is required for the classes. Register is required.

Internet for Beginners classes will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. Registration is required.

The Book Reading Group will read "Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker in January. The group meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. and new members are welcome.

Membership forms are available at the library to join Friends of the Library. The next meeting is Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m.

The Adult Winter Reading Program will begin Jan. 14 and continue through Feb. 23 for adults 18 and older. Entry forms are to be filled for each book read and weekly prizes will be given.

A Coffee Tasting Event will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sample a variety of flavored coffees and enjoy some desserts.

There will be a Coffee Basket Raffle sponsored by Friends of the Library.

Sponsors include The Glass Bonsai and the Redkey Extensiion Homemakers.

Workshops

Arts Place will host grant review training workshops for arts providers and arts organizations Thursday, Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burris Laboratory School in Muncie and Thursday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Arts Place in Portland.

Graduates

Jay County students recently graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Jennifer Inman, Portland, earned an associate's degree in business; Amanda James, Bryant, earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and exceptional needs education; Kristine James, Redkey, earned an associate's degree in business; and Jeffrey Hiser, Portland, earned a bachelor's degree in management.[[In-content Ad]]
