Family night
The Fort Recovery Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently held its third annual Gingerbread House Family Night. Members helped 112 children and parents decorate gingerbread houses for the holidays.
The event was part of an FCCLA project called Families First, in which members are encouraged to complete five curriculum modules that help students develop strong family connections.
LifeStream endorsed
LifeStream’s information and referral (I&R) services is poised to grow as a result of passing the first step to becoming part of the Indiana 2-1-1 system
LifeStream will now work on a timeline on becoming a regional IN2-1-1 Center to help individuals connect with health and human services in their areas. The network also works to connect people to information on such services across the U.S.
Full endorsement is expected to come soon once the timeline, advisory council and other measures are in place.
The new IN2-1-1 regional center is then expected to be operating this spring.
Valerie Cook, interim CEO for LifeStream, said the partnership was possible because LifeStream has been in the information and referral service for nearly all its 30 years of service in East Central Indiana.
2-1-1 is the national abbreviated dialing code for access to health and human service information and referral. It is an easy-to-remember and universally recognizable number that makes critical connections between individuals and families in need and community-based and government agencies.
Free and confidential help is available for many needs, including housing, employment, legal aid, counseling, and more.
Workshop planned
The Indiana Arts Commission and Arts Place, Inc., Portland, has announced that a application workshop for artists interested in applying for an IAC Individual Artist Project grant, will be offered.
The workshop will be held Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. in the Cornerstone Center for the Arts, 520 E. Main St., Muncie.
Advanced registration is required for the workshop and may be made by calling Region 5 Regional Services Director Sue Burk at (260) 726-4809.
Pages sought
State Senator David Ford (R-Hartford City) invites local students to take part in the legislative process by serving as a page for a day. Students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. The 2006 session is scheduled to begin Jan. 9, and continue through March 14.
Any student in grades six through 12 can be a page and the page office will try to accommodate requests for specific dates.
Students participating should arrive at the Statehouse by 8:30 a.m. and will be excused from school for the day.

Those interested in serving should send their name, age, address, phone number and school affiliation to State Senator David Ford, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, 46204, or call (800) 382-9467 or (317) 232-9400.
