The Patriots’ only sectional champion is also their top seed for the regional competition.
Zach Cash leads the Jay County High School boys track team as the No. 9 seed in the 300-meter hurdles for today’s regional meet hosted by North Central. The squad will have athletes competing in five individual events as well as all three relays.
The top three athletes in each event will advance to the state finals June 3 at Indiana University.
Cash earned the No. 9 seed in the 300 hurdles with his sectional-championship time of 40.99 seconds. D’Quan Ruth of Ben Davis is the No. 3 seed in the event at 40.05.
The only other JCHS athlete seeded among the top 10 is sophomore Cade Price in the high jump. His jump of 6 feet even at the Muncie Southside sectional placed him as the No. 10 seed for the regional.
Also competing for the Patriots Thursday will be Tyler Back (14th – shot put), Cash (14th – 110 hurdles), Zane Shreve (tie 15th – high jump) Blake Crouch (16th – 200 dash) and Karlos Harper (16th – shot put). Jay County is seeded 15th for the 4x400 relay and 16th for both the 4x100 and 4x800.

Relay seeded ninth
The South Adams boys track team’s 4x800-meter relay group holds the squad’s highest seed for today’s regional at Wayne.
The team of Eric Isch, Tim Lehman, Logan Steiner and Isaac Werst holds the No. 10 seed for the regional meet based on their sectional time of 8 minutes, 30.31 seconds. The top three finishers in each event advance to the state finals.
Isch is the Starfires’ highest seed for an individual event at No. 12 in the 3,200 run with a time of 10:02. Lehman is the No. 16 seed for the 800 run, and the 4x400 team of Sam Amstutz, Josh Ehr, Tobin Eicher and Lehman is also seeded 16th in 3:36.

Day leads Persimmon
Justice Day came up big from the No. 7 spot in the order to lead Persimmon Ridge to a 9-4 victory Tuesday over Loy Real Estate and Auction in Portland Junior League Rookie softball.
Loy bounced back for a 20-7 win over First Merchants in its second game of the night.
Day had hits in all three of her at bats Tuesday, including an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning. She scored once and drove in four runs.
Haley Gillette led Loy to its win with four hits, three runs and three RBIs against First Merchants.
On Monday, Adrek Pogue went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs to lead Ponderosa to an 11-5 Rookie baseball win over Williams Auto Parts. And on Thursday, Tyler Manor had four hits, six RBIs and three runs in Pak-A-Sak’s 21-2 victory over All Circuit Electric.[[In-content Ad]]
