JC's Ford wins seat on IHSAA board (12/15/05)
By By RAY COONEY-
When Jay County High School students are enjoying their summer break next year their athletics director will be taking on some new responsibilities.
Phil Ford, who is in the second year of his current stint as JCHS AD after also serving in the post during the 1990s, has been elected to the Indiana High School Athletic Association Board of Directors.
Ford’s election was announced in a press release from the IHSAA today. He will begin a three-year term on the 18-person board July 1.
“I’m interested in being more closely involved in the process that governs high school athletics,” said Ford in a phone interview today of why he sought the position. “I don’t have any agenda of changes that I see need to be made. I think I’m probably going to be there a year at least before I get a feel of things.
“I have experience in different size schools in terms of both the larger school setting and the smaller school setting. I think it’s important that the larger rural schools have a voice.”
Ford was elected to the board in the District II, Class 3A seat.
He defeated current board member Pat Mapes, who is the assistant principal at Delta.
Re-elected to three-year terms were Fairfield principal Phil Hoskins, Columbia City athletics director Geoff Penrod and Wes-Del principal Phillip Gardner. Castle principal Phillip DeLong will join Ford as a first-time board member. Eastern Greene superintendent Randy Barrett, who served on the board from 2002 to 2004, also won a seat.[[In-content Ad]]
