JC's Murphy 1st in shot put

MARION — Maria Murphy earned a first-place finish to lead the Jay County High School girls track team in Saturday’s Hoosier State Relay Qualifier 2 at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Murphy, a senior, dominated the field in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 9¼ inches. Western’s Caily Tanner was the runner-up at 34 feet, 11 inches.
Ciera Barcus finished in the top 10 in a pair of events, including a sixth-place finish in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches. She was also seventh in the long jump at 15 feet, 3½ inches.
Morgan Link took seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.9 seconds, and Kaitlin Hemmelgarn was ninth in the 3,200 run with a time of 13 minutes, 18.82 seconds.

Schmidt wins hurdles
UPLAND — Joel Schmidt picked up the lone victory for the South Adams High School track team as it competed at Saturday’s Eastbrook Invitational hosted by Taylor University.Schmidt led the Starfires with his first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles. Hannah Moore paced the SAHS girls with a second-place effort in the 3,200 run.
Adrianna Teeter was third in the long jump, and Hannah Mitchel placed third in the shot put.
The Starfire teams of Brody Shane, Tim Lehman, Isaac Werst and Evan Liechty, and Kristen Muselman, Aleesha Goodwin, Moore and Teeter each took third in the distance medley relay.


Jay seventh places 2nd
The Jay County seventh grade girls basketball team finished as the runner-up this weekend in the FCC/Small Engine Warehouse Boomer-Town Invitational hosted by Jay Community Center.
Jay County picked up victories over South Amams and Union City on the weekend before falling 25-21 to Norwell in Sunday’s championship game.
Taylor Homan led the team in scoring in three of its four games, posting a high of 14 points in a 30-26 overtime loss Saturday to the Randolph Southern eighth grade team. Kyndal Miller had 11 points in the victory over South Adams.
Also scoring for the team on the weekend were Catera Gierhart, Emily Muhlenkamp, Alison Jutte, Lilly Rodgers, Allison Addington, Audrey Shreve, Britlyn Dues, Deanna Chenoweth, Rebekah Corwin and Samantha Back.

Indiana SELECT wins
The Indiana SELECT fifth grade girls basketball team won the Boomer-Town Invitational this weekend with a 4-0 record. Playing for the team were Allison Hoening, Valerie Muhlenkamp, Avery West, Dawn Minnick, Maddy Lawrence, Cassidy Qualls, Jordyn Barga and Shelby Caldwell.[[In-content Ad]]
