JJC offering development classes
The John Jay Center will be holding Summer Session Workforce Development classes throughout June.
Courses to be offered include:
• Welding for Beginners – June 4-July 3, 6-9 p.m.
• Microsoft Excel 1&2 – June 4 and 5, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
• Certified Nursing Assistant – Intake session June 5, 9-11 a.m. or 1-3:30 p.m.
• CNC Machining – June 5, 7:30-11:30 a.m.
• Stellar Customer Service – June 11, 6-8 p.m., June 14, 18, 21, & 25; 1-5 p.m.
• Microsoft Word 1&2 – June 18 and 19, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
• Certified Production Technician – June 18-28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Interns at The CR
Two Ball State University students have joined The CR staff for the summer as interns. Michelle Zeman of Fishers, Ind. is ia senior photojournalism major at Ball State University. Zeman is expected to graduate in December.
While being a Ball State student, an activity Zeman is involved in includes being a multimedia producer for Ball Bearings, which is Ball State’s student-run campus online and magazine media outlet.
She has been involved with Ball Bearings since August 2009 and has been a staff photographer, assistant online photo editor and online photo editor.
Kelly Dickey is a senior journalism major at Ball State University and has held numerous positions, including editor-in-chief, at the university’s independent student-run paper, The Ball State Daily News, and has worked for the university’s student magazine, Ball Bearings.
Dickey was raised in Hartford City, Ind., and is a 2008 graduate of Blackford High School.
Wal-Mart violations
More than 4,500 employees nationwide will receive money from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. for unpaid overtime, according to the Labor Department.
The company will also pay $464,000 in civil penalties for violating federal overtime laws.
The Labor Department said the company improperly considered managers at Wal-Mart vision centers and certain security personnel at Wal-Mart Discount Stores, Wal-Mart Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and Sam’s Club warehouses exempt from overtime pay.
National Pork Board
A Fort Recovery man has been elected to serve on the National Pork Board.
Carl Link will serve as one of 15 pork producers on the board and is eligible to serve two consecutive three-year terms.
Link currently serves on the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s concentrated animal feeing operation permitting program, oversees the management of pigs at Cooper Farms and is a member of the Ohio Pork Producers Council and a National Pork Act delegate.
Mercer’s rate down
Mercer County’s unemployment rate is continually declining, thanks to existing businesses expanding.
For the sixth consecutive month, the county had the lowest unemployment rate.
The rate was 4.5 percent in April, down .04 percent from March.
New hospice nurse
State of the Heart Hospice announced Christy Timmerman was hired as a primary nurse in its Greenville office.
Timmerman lives in Ridgeville with her family and has been a registered nurse for 10 years.
State of the Heart also has offices in Portland and Coldwater.
