JJCA and Redkey students win contest
Taking Note
Students from area schools recently competed in the Optimist Oratorical Contest with the theme “If I Were the Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I Would Address Would Be…”
At Jay County Christian Academy, first place in the girls division was Jenna Blount. She is a fifth grade student and the daughter of Ryan Blount and Lorenne Upp, both of Portland.
First place in the boys division was Elijah Corwin. He is a fourth grade student and the son of Mitch and Sabrina Corwin, Portland.
Runner-up in the girls division was Grace Lavy, third grade, the daughter of Joe and Jackie Lavy.
Runner-up in the boys division was Samuel Lavy, fourth grade, the son of Joe and Jackie Lavy.
At Redkey Elementary, first place in the girls division was Kaitlin Ford. She is a fifth grade student and the daughter of Dwayne and Terri Ford.
First place in the boys division was Jordan Stultz. He is a fifth grade student and the son of Larry and Annette Stultz.
Runner-up in the girls division was Shelby McClain, fifth grade, the daughter of Mark and Tonja McClain.
Runner-up in the boys division was Trent Fullenkamp, fifth grade, the son of Chuck and Sharon Fullenkamp.
New officers
Redkey Better Workers 4-H club recently chose its new officers. Shelby Louck, president; Zach Johnson, vice president; Alli Louck, secretary; Taylor Campbell, news reporter; Maddi Louck, treasurer; Megan Johnson, Alli Campbell, Brady Vore and Skyler Johnson, recreation leaders.
Bee winners
Redkey Elementary School recently held a Spelling Bee. The champion was Jaylen Young, a fifth grade student. He is the son of Brandon Young.
The alternate was Trent Fullenkamp, also a fifth grader. He is the son of Charles and Sharon Fullenkamp.
Art show
The 21st Minnetrista Annual Juried Art Show & Sale will begin Friday, Feb. 18, and continue through Saturday, April 30 at Minnetrista in Muncie.
Artists from across East Central Indiana will show paintings, drawings, mixed media, prints, sculpture, fiber, metalwork, ceramics and photography.
Some items will also be for sale.
Minnetrista hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Lecture
Roane Smothers will present a lecture on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Garst Museum, 205 N. Broadway in Greenville, Ohio.
Smothers will share stories of African Americans from the Longtown area and Darke County who left to fight in the Civil War.
