Wal-Mart to
reduce inventory
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will begin to implement inventory reduction plans it announcedin October 2005.
Though the retailer declined to offer details to its strategy, company spokeswoman Gail Lavielle told The Associated Press that inventory would be looked at on a case by case basis, and analysts speculate that Wal-Mart may eliminate minor brands from its inventory or stock fewer varieties of certain items.
Wal-Mart is expected to use the savings to improve store interiors and reduce clutter.
Bob Buchanon, a retail analyst at A.G. Edwards & Sons said Wal-Mart’s goal is to have its sales outpace its inventory increases.
Wal-Mart’s stock has fallen 6 percent in the last 12 months.
Invents
life-saving product
Shannon (Freeman) Frogge, Nolensville, Tenn., formerly of Jay County, invented the Forget-Me-Not, which is now available for licensing to manufacturers through Invent-Tech, based in Florida.
The Forget-Me-Not is designed to prevent children from being accidentally left in a vehicle, which can be a fatal mistake.
The original idea is now available for licensing to manufacturers interested in new product development, and Frogge hopes the product will be available to the public in the near future.
