JCHS baseball

Sophomores Michael Jobe and Luke Goetz keyed the Patriots Saturday as they salvaged a double-header split.

Jobe earned the game-two victory, and he and Goetz powered the offense as the Jay County baseball team defeated the visiting Connersville Spartans 6-3 in the second game. Connersville took the first half of the twin bill, 4-1.

The Patriots (3-4) trailed 1-0 after the first inning of game two, but evened the score in the third and then posted three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. Jobe picked up the win as he allowed three runs on five hits. He went the distance, striking out nine.

Goetz and Jobe each finished with two hits and two runs. Casey Waters added a pair of hits.

Josh Shatto was victimized by errors in the opener as just one of Connersville’s four runs were earned. He gave up five hits and six walks while striking out 10.

Goetz also had a pair of hits in game one, added two stolen bases and a run. Shatto and Josh Selvey added two hits apiece.
