Jobe leads JC to 2-0 victory (04/24/08)

JCHS baseball

CONNERSVILLE - Another nine strikeouts. Another shutout. And another win.

It's the type of performance that has become commonplace for Michael Jobe.

The senior turned in another stellar effort on the hill, blanking the Connersville Spartans Wednesday as the Jay County High School baseball team won 2-0.

Jobe did not walk a batter and allowed just five hits as the Patriots defeated their Olympic Athletic Conference rival to improve to 9-1. His nine strikeouts upped his total for the year to 52 in 39 innings.

He has a 1.08 ERA and is 6-0, half way to matching the school record he tied last season.

Trey Dunn had Jay County's lone extra-base hit in support of Jobe, finishing with a triple, a single and a run. Josh Ludy and Phil Powell each had two hits, Billy Wellman drove in a run and Andrew Lancaster scored once.

The host Patriots took the lead with a four-run third inning and held on for a 9-7 victory over Connersville.

The Spartans (2-4) led 6-3 - they scored five runs in the second inning - before Jay County took control in the bottom of the third. The teams traded runs in the fifth, and the Patriots scored once in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.

Eric Homan ripped three doubles for the Patriots and scored two runs. Ben Vance had three hits, three RBIs and two runs.

Homan picked up the win as only three of the seven runs against him were earned. He gave up four hits in five innings and struck out five batters. Skylar Petty tossed two scoreless innings of relief.[[In-content Ad]]
