Jobe wins scholarship

The granddaughter of Portland residents Mr. and Mrs. Billy Jobe, was awarded a four-year college scholarship to Erskine College in South Carolina.
Laura Beth Jobe, 17, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Jobe, Fort Mill, S.C., is a home-schooled student who plans to study chemistry.
Laura competed against 99 other students for the scholarship, which is worth $100,000, in two interviews and three essays.
Farm program
Dr. Fred Whitford will discuss transporting farm equipment on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. in the Jay County Courthouse Auditorium.
Whitford has written a publication entitled "Transporting Farm Equipment/What Growers Need to Know" and is in charge of Purdue Pesticide Private Applicators Program.
The cost is $10 for anyone wanting to receive Pesticide Private Applicators Credit.
The program is sponsored by Purdue University and Jay County Extension Service. For more information, call John Knipp at (260) 726-4707.
Help for caregivers
LifeStream is offering a free packet to caregivers that include tip sheets on developing better communications, how to reduce stress and what services might be able to help.

Hospice volunteers
State of the Heart Hospice will have orientation for volunteers beginning Monday, Jan. 18, at St. Vincent Randolph County Hospital in Winchester.
