While many teams were taking time off for spring break before starting the outdoor season, Alyssa Johnson and the Taylor University women's track team got a jump start.
Johnson, a 2006 Jay County graduate, teamed for a second-place finish as the Trojans competed March 17 at the Wabash Relays.
The freshman joined with Alyssa Hartman, Becky Hegelein and Winchester graduate Tabitha Bogue to finish as the runner-up team in the 4x800-meter relay. They crossed the line in 10-minutes, 26.44 seconds, trailing only the team from Huntington College.
Joseph Vormohr
Jay County - 2006
Also competed March 17 for the Hanover College men's track team at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Vormohr, a 2006 state qualifier in the shot put, posted his best finish in fourth place in the discus. His longest toss went 120 feet, 2 inches.
He added a fifth-place finish with a throw of 42 feet, 3.5 inches in the shot put.
Heath Williams
Jay County - 2004
Helped the Manchester College baseball team as it played a week of games in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Williams had two hits and two runs in an offensive battle Monday as the Spartans fell 22-13.
He also scored a run in Manchester's 4-2 loss Sunday against Otterbein.
