Johnson leads JC at Celina Rotary

CELINA, Ohio — The Jay County High School girls cross country team had four runners finish in the top 10 as it ran itself to a four-point victory in the large school division at the Celina Rotary Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Wright State Lake Campus.
Led by Abigail Johnson’s third-place finish, the Patriot girls scored 47 points to win the seven-team event over St. Marys Memorial (51) and Findlay (71).
The JCHS boys were last out of eight teams with 196 points. Bryan took seven of the top 10 spots to win with 22 points, and the host Bulldogs were second.
Johnson led the Patriots with a time of 21 minutes, 21 seconds, for her third-place finish. Megan Wellman finished just seven seconds behind Johnson for a fifth-place finish. Emi Minnich (22:16) placed ninth, and Kellie Fortkamp finished in 22 minutes, 16 seconds, for 10th place.
Kaitlin Hemmelgarn (23:21) finished in 20th, as the Patriots scored 47 in the win. St. Marys Memorial (51) finished second and Findlay (71) placed third.
Michael Denney finished in 29th for the Patriot boys with a time of 20 minutes, 8 seconds. Tanner Craw finished 46th, Dustin Cope 47th, and Chaz Carroll, Jake Nichols and Travis Barton placed 59th, 60th and 64th, respectively.
SA first, Fort fifth
The South Adams High School boys cross country team had four runners in the top 10 Saturday as the Starfires won the small school division at the Celina Rotary Cross Country Invitational.
Fort Recovery had two runners in the top 20 to finish fifth in the 11-team invitational with 132 points.
Brody Shane, Sawyer Miller and Bailey McIntire all finished within 13 seconds of one another for fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finishes to lead SAHS. Shane posted a time of 17 minutes, 18 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
