Johnson, Nichols power East Jay (09/08/05)

WINCHESTER — Patrick Johnson and Tevin Nichols crossed the finish line together to lead the East Jay eighth grade boys cross country team to a 26-29 victory over Winchester Driver Wednesday.
East Jay’s girls team lost to Driver by the same score while the Chief sixth and seventh grade boys team fell 19-37.
Johnson won the eighth grade boys race, edging teammate Nichols for first place at the finish line. The pair finished with identical times of 10-minutes, 20 seconds with the next closest runner 38 seconds back.
Ben Brandt was next for the Chiefs, finishing fifth overall in 11:31. Brad Horn took eighth in 12:00, and Adam Daniels was 10th in 12:35.
Driver took the top two spots in the girls race and had just enough to hold off East Jay. Katie Simmons was first for the Chiefs, placing third overall in 12:05. She was followed by Leah Wellman in fourth in 12:23 and Katie Butcher in fifth with a time of 12:39.
Renae Ray finished in 13:00 to place eighth, and Erica Bruggeman was ninth in 13:15.
Garrett Krieg paced East Jay in the sixth and seventh grade boys race, finishing fourth in 11:50. Also scoring were Bradley Leuthold (fifth, 12:05), Edward Muhlenkamp (eight, 12:16), Seth Ainsworth (ninth, 12:20) and Austin Bentz (11th, 12:48).[[In-content Ad]]
