Johnson sets record for Chiefs (05/13/04)

Amanda Johnson took down a school record Wednesday, leading the East Jay girls track team to a 74-26 victory over Winchester Driver. The boys team got two wins apiece from Cody Sutton and Clint Muhlenkamp, but fell to a 56-44 defeat.

Johnson picked up one of her two wins for the Chiefs by putting herself in the record books in the 800-meter run. She set her school record in 2-minutes, 38.14 seconds.

She also earned the victory in the 1,600-meter run in 5:58.

Johnson went on to team with Erika Hunt, Sarah Mescher and Stephanie Wellman as they won the 4x400-meter relay.

Hunt, Tequila Guntle and Cori Vormohr also added a pair of individual wins each.

Hunt took first place in the hurdles in 18.21. She also won the high jump at four feet, seven inches.

Guntle was first in the long jump at 12 feet, 11 inches, and won the 200-meter dash in 29.49. Vormohr completed the field event sweep with wins in the discus (75 feet, nine inches) and the shot put (28 feet).

Mescher picked up the other East Jay win with a time of 13.70 in the 100-meter dash.

Sutton took the 200-meter dash for the boys team in 25.77. His other win came in the hurdles with a time of 17.55.

Muhlenkamp was first in the 400-meter dash in 58.80. He took the high jump at five feet, four inches.

Dexter Shreve’s leap of 15 feet, three inches was good for a win in the long jump, and Brad Tipton took the victory in the shot put at 39 feet.

The East Jay girls B team won by a 70-29 margin, while the boys team took a 60-40 victory.

Amy Nichols was the lone double winner for the girls B team. She was first in the shot put at 22 feet, three inches and the discus at 62 feet, three inches.

Brianne Wellman took the high jump at four feet, and Gabi Stout was first in the long jump at 10 feet, 10 inches. Cindy Muhlenkamp captured the hurdles in 20.46, Kari Brotherton took the 100-meter dash in 14.83, Megan Adams finished first in the 200-meter dash in 32.04 and Carrie Minnich won the 400-meter dash in 1:12.83.

Wellman, Brotherton, Minnich and Adams teamed for a time of 1:00.49 to win the 4x100-meter relay. Wellman, Minnich, Kylie Wellman and Sharon Dirksen finished in 5:19.30 to take the 4x400-meter relay.

Jason Rosenbeck picked up a pair of victories for the boys team, taking the 100-meter dash in 13.08. He sprinted to another win with a time of 28.14 in the 200-meter dash.

Lance VanSkyock topped the hurdles in 19.99, Lance Franklin was first in the 400-meter run in 1:03.34 and Cole Ingram took the 800-meter run in 2:49.61. The high jump win went to Aaron Daniels at four feet, eight inches, and Adam Michael won the discus with a toss of 66 feet, nine inches.

EJ crushes Central

Michael Jobe and Billy Wellman each hit inside-the-park home runs as the East Jay baseball team improved to 4-0 Wednesday with a 14-1 destruction of Monroe Central.

Jobe added a triple in the victory, and Wellman notched a single. Justin Mann had three hits, including a double, and Colton Lombardo and Joshua Ludy each added three hits.

Mann earned the win as he struck out five in two scoreless and hitless innings. Kyle Simmons notched six strikeouts, allowing one run in three innings.[[In-content Ad]]
