Johnson wins pair for Patriots (05/02/07)

PENDLETON - Amanda Johnson turned in a couple of individual victories Tuesday and contributed to a relay win in leading the Jay County girls team to a second-place finish in four-team action at Pendleton Heights.
The Patriots scored 75 points, putting them behind only the host Arabians (104). New Castle was third with 52, and Muncie Southside scored 16.
Johnson picked up solid wins in both of her races, taking the 800-meter run by nearly four seconds in 2-minutes 35.26 seconds. Her winning time in the 1,600 run was 5:56.58.
In the 4x400 relay, Johnson teamed with Nicole Pfeifer, Sarah Mescher and Kari Hemmelgarn for a top time of 4:26.81.
Mescher crossed the finish line first in the 200 dash in 29.82, and Lindsey Current jump four inches higher than the rest of the field to take the high jump at 5 feet even.
Adding second-place efforts were Mescher (100 dash - 14.46), Kelsey Wood (long jump - 14 feet, 61/2 inches), Tina Gingrasso (400 dash - 1:08.49) and Sara Garringer (discus - 85 feet, 61/2 inches).
Stein wins discus
COLDWATER, Ohio - Holly Stein turned in the only win for the Fort Recovery track teams Tuesday on day one of the Mercer County Knights of Columbus Invitational.
Stein's effort was enough to put the Tribe girls in second place with 27 points at the meet, which will continue Thursday. Coldwater is the leader with 34 points.
The Indian boys sit in fourth place out of five teams with four points, one-half ahead of Parkway. St. Henry has nearly twice as many points as any other team with 64.
Stein took the discus with one of her best throws of the season at 113 feet, 10 inches. She was also second in the shot put, trailing Marion Local's Kathy Dirksen by just 11/2 inches at 37 feet, 11/2 inches.
The team of Mind Vogel, Tina Roessner, Amber Heitkamp and Sam Bihn added a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay at 10:25.91.
Michael Trobridge had the top finish for the FRHS boys, placing fourth in the 100 dash preliminaries at 12.07.[[In-content Ad]]
