Johnston leads golfers to victory over Raiders (04/15/05)

The Jay County golf team continued its undefeated streak from 2004 with a 160-171 victory over the Wapahani Raiders Thursday.
The Patriots (1-0), who were unbeaten in dual meets last season, got three rounds of 40 or better as they were led by Tyler Johnston. Johnston, one of five seniors in the starting lineup, shared match medalist honors with Wapahani’s Todd Clark with a 39.
Alex Hunt and Ben Freeman each followed with 40s for the Patriots, which was three strokes better than the No. 2 score of 43 from the Raiders’ Zach Stratton.
Adam Foster finished off the team scored with a 41, and Nathan McClung came in with a 46.
Jay County’s junior varsity squad dropped its first match of the year to Wapahani, 201-207. Gray Suman and Christopher Comer shared the team-best score of 51.

PORTLAND — The Bellmont Braves scored five runs in three consecutive innings to finish off the Jay County junior varsity baseball team in five innings Thursday, 15-2.
Each team scored once in the first inning, but the Braves added five runs in the third, fourth and fifth for their big win. Jay County scored its second run in the bottom of the fifth.
Kaleb Carpenter and R.J. Fuller combined on the pitching effort for the Patriots (2-2), each allowing three hits.
Justin Mann finished 2-for-3, and Luke Goetz added a double.
Fort JH track 3rd
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior high track teams had a rough night Thursday, each finishing third as the Indians hosted a three-team meet.
Ansonia dominated both the boys and girls competitions, scoring 83 and 111 points respectively. Houston was second in the boys (61) and girls (26) competition with Fort Recovery following with six points on the boys side and 19 for the girls.
Emily May, Amber Heitkamp and Jessica Link shared the top finish for Fort Recovery. May was second in the 400-meter dash, Heitkamp was second in the 800 run and Link was second in the discus.
Greg Kahlig was third in the 400 dash for the boys team, Perry Hull was third in the 110 hurdles and Ethan Schoenherr finished third in the long jump.[[In-content Ad]]
