Johnston scores pair in loss

BERNE — Alaina Johnston scored two first-half goals Thursday, but the South Adams girls soccer team fell to the visiting Eastbrook Panthers, 5-3.
Jade Jauregui assisted on Johnston’s second goal, and Tori Reiley scored the other goal for the Starfires on a pass from Michaela Rupp.
Johnston had a team-high seven shots on net while Ellie Kaverman, Madison Morgan, Rupp and Reiley each added one shot each.
Gabrielle Amstutz made nine saves as goalkeeper for the Starfires.
South Adams’ final match of the regular season is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Manchester.
Jets soar over Starfires
MONROE — The host Adams Central Flying Jets volleyball team defeated South Adams on Thursday, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18.
Alyssa Bluhm recorded team-highs in kills (eight) and blocks (six) for the Starfires. Morgan Alberson added 12 digs and four kills, while Emma Rossworm had 11 assists and five digs.
Lauren Smith tallied three digs and three aces, while Cady Farlow had seven digs and three kills.
The Starfire junior varsity team fell to the Jets 25-20, 25-15. Cindy Int’Groen led South Adams with 10 digs and eight kills, Chastity Guereca had eight assists and Abby Myers had eight digs.

Sutters lead Indians
COLDWATER, Ohio — Elle and Derek Sutter led the Fort Recovery cross country teams Thursday at the Coldwater Lions Invitational.
Elle crossed the finish line in 13th place 20 minutes, 12 seconds, as the girls placed eighth out of 17 teams.
Derek finished in 18:05 for 35th place as the boys team finished 11th out of 23 teams.
Angela Heitkamp (21:45 – 50th), Grace Gehle (22:21 – 70th), Julie Wendel (22:30 – 79th) and Chassity Hemmelgarn (23:13 – 108th) rounded out the top five runners for the Tribe girls.
Travis Sutter placed 47th in 18:19 for the boys, and Issac Siegrist crossed the finish line nine seconds later in 57th place.
Joey Gonzalez (18:44 – 65th) and Sam Huelskamp (19:59 – 131) were the No. 4 and No. 5 runners respectively for the Indians.[[In-content Ad]]
