Jones to speak at museum

The Jay County Historical Society will have a program meeting on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at the Jay County Historical Museum at 903 E. Main St. in Portland.
Dr. Carmel Jones will speak on the topic “The Migration and Assimilation of Southern Families in West Jay County.” His family migrated from the Southern Appalachian Region to western Jay County in the 1950s.
Jones is a 1971 graduate of Ball State University with a degree in history. He resides in Dunkirk in the childhood home of dancer and choreographer Twyla Tharp.
An open house will be held at the museum Saturday, May 19, from 1 to 4 p.m., in honor of Bryant and Pennville High School graduates before their alumni banquets. The museum will also be open Sunday, May 20, from 1 to 4 p.m.
An open house in honor of Portland High School graduates will be Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. before their alumni banquet. The museum will also be open Sunday, June 17, from 1 to 4 p.m.
