JRDS joins medicaid program (5/30/03)
Local organization to help with state program
Jay-Randolph Developmental Services Inc. has been selected as a Jay & Randolph Community Partner for Medicaid Select, a new state program.
Administered by the state’s Family and Social Services Administration, Medicaid Select is a health care program for aged, blind or disabled people who have Medicaid. The program is the result of legislation passed during the General Assembly’s 2002 session, according to information on the Medicaid Select web site.
As a community partner, JRDS will help with problem solving, choice counseling and education for Medicaid Select members. Specially trained JRDS staff members will help educate Medicaid Select members on the importance of primary and preventive care and will assist them in choosing a primary medical provider, a JRDS press release issued Thursday afternoon stated.
The program member will go to that physician for all medical needs, including prescriptions and specialist referrals.
Residents of Jay or Randolph counties covered by the Medicaid Select program may contact Dave Rees or Vickie Walling at JRDS at (260) 726-7931 to schedule an appointment.
JRDS is a comprehensive, not-for-profit community-based rehabilitation facility which serves children and adults with special needs. Its center is located at 901 E. Water St. in Portland.
Jay and Randolph counties are in the program’s Central Region. Membership enrollment for that region began April 1.
Adams County is located in the program’s Northern Region, that region’s enrollment will begin July 1.
The League for the Blind and Disabled, a center for independent living in Fort Wayne, will serve as a community partner for Adams County. That agency can be reached at (800) 889-3443, Medicaid Select community partnership coordinator Erica Gorden said Thursday afternoon.
