Jubilee committee makes donation (08/23/07)
Taking Note
The Fort Recovery Harvest Jubilee committee recently distributed profits from the event to the community.
The Friends of the Arts received $1,500; Fort Recovery Park Operating and Maintenance received $19,823; Ambassador Pool was granted $1,250; the Fort Recovery Fire Department received $1,500; the Fort Recovery Ambassador Capital Improvement Fund received $2,000 for the lunch stand; Fort Recovery Library received $1,250; Fort Recovery Community Foundation received $3,700.
Receives degrees
Area students recently received degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Robert Allen Fairchild, Portland, received a bachelor's degree in management; Michael Shane Hill, Portland, received a master's degree in education; Margaret Susan Horner, Pennville, received a bachelor's degree in management; and Deborah Lynn Howell, Portland, received an associate's degree in business.
Rare films
Two rarely seen films made from books by Hoosier author Gene Stratton-Porter will be shown in Geneva.
The Gene Stratton-Porter Film Festival will be held at the Star Theatre in Geneva on Friday, Sept. 14, and Saturday, Sept. 15.
"Laddie," made in 1940, will be shown on Friday at 7 p.m. and "Keeper of the Bees," made in 1947, will be shown Saturday at 2 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased at the Limberlost State Historic Site Gift Shop in Geneva or by calling (260) 589-2303.
Gourd workshop
The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, Inc., will present a gourd container workshop with gourd artist Carolyn Rushton on Saturday, Sept. 22.
The workshop will be held in the community room at Jay County Public Library, Portland, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration deadline for the workshop is Sept. 14. To register, call Kay Neumayr at (765) 426-3022 or email [email protected].
Child care help
Licensed family child care providers in Jay and surrounding counties may be eligible for a federal food program to help with the cost of food.

Time change
Connor Prairie will change the time period of its Prairietown's Golden Eagle Inn from 1836 to 1863 on Saturday and Sunday to represent the Civil War.
The change is to kick off the new program "Rally 'Round the Flag." Morgan's Raid, the only major military action to happen in Indiana during the Civil War, will be the focus. Guest will meet army recruiters and women and children who have moved north for safety on Saturday and Sunday. The event concentrates on the army preparations with training, marching and food and equipment issues.
