Kahlig 4th for Indians

MINSTER, Ohio — Kylie Kahlig turned in the top finish Tuesday for the Fort Recovery High School girls track team, which is fifth in a field of nine teams after the first day of competition in the Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.
The Indian girls totaled 12 points while the boys, competing without leader Aaron Vagedes because of a pulled hamstring, went scoreless. Host Minster sits first in both the boys (42) and girls (33) competitions, which resume Friday at 6 p.m.
Kahlig, who won the shot put title last season, placed fourth in the event his year. She had a toss of 34 feet, 6 inches, which was less than a foot short of champion Janel Schulte of Marion Local.
Holly Brunswick added a sixth-place finish in the long jump at 15 feet, ½ inch. The Tribe was also fifth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 10 minutes, 38 seconds.
Qualifying for Friday’s finals for Fort Recovery in individual events were Marissa Brunswick (fourth – 300 hurdles) and Sierra Pugh (eighth – 400 dash). The girls 4x100 and 4x400 relays qualified seventh.

Johnston leads SAMS
GARRETT — Alaina Johnston led South Adams Middle School Tuesday at the Allen County Athletic Conference Championships.

The boys team placed fifth out of eight teams with 36 points, and the girls were sixth with 37 points. Leo won the girls (134) and boys (124) competitions.
Johnston was the only Starfire to place in the top three of an individual event, turning in a leap of 13 feet, 1¾ inches to finish third in the girls long jump. Lauren Smith was fourth in the shot put at 24 feet, 3¾ inches, and Caroline Kloepper also placed fourth in the 200 dash in 30.45 seconds.
Matt Nussbaum was fourth for the SAMS boys in the long jump at 15 feet, ¾ inches.

Warriors defeat WJ
DUNKIRK — Tyra Westlake paced the West Jay Middle School girls track team Monday in a 57-43 loss to the visiting Wes-Del Warriors.
Westlake led an Eagle sweep of the shot put at 26 feet, 5 inches ahead of Christina Easton and Brea Holdcroft. She was second in the discus behind Holdcroft, who won at 68 feet, 3 inches.
The only other individual victory for WJMS came from Emilee Walter in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1 minute, 11 seconds.
Courtney Cox, Morgan Brown, Melony Eley and Walter also teamed for a time of 5:06.9 to win the 4x400 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
