Kahlig, Garman combine on no-hitter (04/10/07)

Fort Recovery roundup

PITSBURG, Ohio - Greg and Craig are becoming quite a one-two punch.

In their first pitching appearances of the year, Greg Kahlig and Craig Garman combined for a two-hit shutout of Union City. They were even better Monday night, combining for a no-hitter in a 9-0 victory for the Fort Recovery baseball team over the Franklin Monroe Jets.

Kahlig, a freshman, struck out seven batters as he tossed the first 32/3 innings. Then Garman, a senior, came on to finish the job with two strikeouts over 31/3 scoreless.

The Indians (5-0) gave their pitching duo plenty of support, jumping ahead with three runs in the top of the first inning. They have scored at least three runs in the first inning in four of their five games.

Troy Metzger powered the Tribe with two hits and three RBIs, and Toby Metzger also had two hits. Kevin Schoenherr finished 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs, and Clint Tobe went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs.

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians just couldn't get those final three outs.

The Indians held a 2-0 lead and were still up 3-2 heading into the final frame, but gave up eight seventh-inning runs Monday in a 10-3 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers.

Heather Schmackers had two of her team's five hits and also scored twice for Fort Recovery, which dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Lauren Wenning notched an RBI single, and Sandra Sudhoff had a run and a stolen base.

Kinsey Wenning took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits as she went the distance. She struck out four and walked two.[[In-content Ad]]
