MONROE — The Patriot girls swim team broke its school record for wins this season. The boys are one victory away from tying their mark.
Jay County High School’s boys swimmers improved to 12-3 Tuesday with a 108-75 victory over the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
The Patriots can tie the school record of 13 wins set in 2009 with a victory in their final meet of the season at home Monday against Muncie Southside.
James Keen took first place in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in 24.11 seconds and 54.76 respectively to lead JCHS over the Flying Jets. Alex Sutton was first in the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 2.43 seconds, Caleb Hummel took the 500 freestyle in 6:01.39 and Kaleb Baldwin won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.4.
Jay County was also first in all three relays.
SA falls to Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — The South Adams Middle School wrestling team suffered a 36-18 loss Tuesday to host Blackford.
Picking up victories for the Starfires were Josh Lahr, Kam DeLong, Gabe Schwartz, Wyatt Miller, Daudre James, Grant Shaffer and Isaiah Baumgartner. The loss dropped South Adams to 0-2.
Simmons third
FORT WAYNE — Katie Simmons turned in the top effort for the Patriot Track Club Friday as it competed in the IPFW Club Invitational at Hilliard Gates Center.
Simmons, a Jay County High School senior, paced the team with her third-place finish in the junior/senior girls 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 41 seconds. Andrew Eley finished fourth in the freshman/sophomore boys shot put at 33 feet, 8 inches.
Adding fifth-place finishes in their divisions were Dylan Cope in the 800 run, Dustin Cope in the 400 dash, Brad Leuthold in the 400 dash and Travis Slack in the shot put.
SELECT goes 3-1
The Indiana SELECT fifth grade girls basketball team picked up three wins Saturday and Sunday in the inaugural MGYBL Snowball Shootout Tournament.
The team of Jordyn Barga, Dawn Minnick, Cassidy Quails, Avery West, Shelby Caldwell, Maddy Lawrence and Valerie Muhlenkamp posted a 3-1 record. Caldwell also won the 3-point and free-throw contests.[[In-content Ad]]
