Keen sets Jay record

MONROE — James Keen can put his name in the record book again.
The junior became the first Jay County swimmer to break the five-minute mark in the 500-yard freestyle, setting a new school record of four minutes, 59.18 seconds.
He also placed first in the boys 50 freestyle as the Patriots cruised to a 104-77 victory Tuesday at Adams Central.
Senior Josh Lykins joined Keen with two individual victories, placing first in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle.
Cody White (200 individual medley) and Sok Vormohr (100 backstroke) picked up individual victories for the Patriots, who improve to 6-3 on the season.
Earning second place finishes for the Patriots were Will Rowles (100 freestyle), White (100 breaststroke) and Vormohr (100 butterfly).
Matt Blackford (200 freestyle), Kaleb Baldwin (200 individual medley) and Travis Barton (100 freestyle) all placed third.

Tribe tops Starfires
FORT RECOVERY — Three players scored in double figures Monday, as the Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team beat South Adams 42-24.
Caleb Martin led Fort Recovery with 14 points. The Indians also got 12-point efforts from Kyle Knapke and Jason Roessner.
EJMS grapplers win
The East Jay Middle School wrestling team cruised to victory Monday, beating Monroe Central 80-12.
Mason Winner won by technical fall in the 105-pound weight division. Davis Anderson (85), Hunter Mills (90), Derek Bryan (95) and Caleb Chenoweth (100) all earned victories by pin.
Also earning wins by pin were Kaimen Sanders (110), Thomas Hemmelgarn (125), Ben Antrim (145) and Jacob Ferguson (HWT).
In reserve action, Dylan Racster, Bryan Newman, Mitchel Langenkamp and Nathan Lykins all won by pinning their opponents.

Jutte leads Indians
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Payton Jutte scored 20 points as the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team beat New Knoxville 43-23 Monday.

The eighth grade Indians lost 46-52.
Caden Will scored seven points in support of Jutte, who nearly scored enough points to beat the Cardinals by himself.
Cade Wendel scored 19 points for the Fort Recovery eighth graders in the loss to New Knoxville. Cash Metzger also scored in double figures, tallying 13 points in support of Wendel.

EJMS beat Northside
MUNCIE — Klarisa Hemmelgarn scored eight points as the East Jay seventh grade girls basketball team beat Muncie Northside on Monday, 39-24.
The EJMS eighth graders fell to Northside 20-18.
Kendra Muhlenkamp and Gwen Omstead both scored seven points for the seventh grade Chiefs, who also got five points from Hanna Dillon.
Clare Dirksen tallied four points, Maggie Pryor scored three and Hannah Phillips and Kailee Denney each added two.
For the EJMS eighth graders, Betsy Muhlenkamp scored a team-high eight points and Taylor Muhlenkamp added seven.
Audrey Dirksen tallied two points.
Both teams are 5-2 on the season.

Outcalt 2nd at Cup
INDIANAPOLIS — Hannah Outcalt set three career-best scores to finish second in the all-around competition to lead a group of Jay County gymnasts who competed Saturday at the Circle City Cup at Manual High School.
Outcalt was first in the Level 2 seniors group on the balance beam (9.4) and floor exercise (9.6). She finished with an all-around score of 37.05. All three were career-best scores.
Courtney Miles posted a career-best 9.4 on the vault for second place in the Level 7 all ages group. Her 36.2 score in the all-around competition, also a career best, gave her a fourth-place finish.
Halle Hill placed first in the beam with a career-high 9.35, as she was fifth in the all-around competition, 0.2 points behind Miles.
The trio will compete in the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational on Feb. 21 and 22 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
