Kelly awarded scholarship (8/30/05)

Mark Kelly, Portland, a cancer survivor, has been awarded an American Cancer Society Great Lakes Division Foundation college scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is provided each year, up to four years. Mark attends Taylor University in Upland and is the son of Hugh and Sabrina Kelly.



Library events

A Teen Advisory Board Back to School Party will be held tonight at the Jay County Public Library for teens in grades six through 12. There will be music, prizes and refreshments. Come to the Jay County Public Library between Thursday, Sept. 1, and Saturday, Sept. 10, and register for the September reading program Share the Treasure with Captain Book. You will receive a treasure map calendar with activities to complete by Oct. 5 to earn treasures.

Tractor and engine show

The ninth annual Fall Harvest Festival Antique Tractor and Engine Show will be held Friday, Sept. 9, through Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Mercer County Fairgrounds in Celina, Ohio.

Mitch Albom to speak

Mitch Albom, best know for his book “Tuesdays with Morrie” will speak on Monday, Sept. 19, at Indiana University Purdue University. From Morrie To Heaven: Searching for a Meaningful Life will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Walb Union Ballroom.

Albom’s first novel “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list.

He is a columnist for the Detroit Free Press, hosts “The Mitch Albom Show,” a nationally syndicated radio program and appears on ESPN’s The Sports Reporters.
