CONNERSVILLE - The Patriot boys were perfect at the Connersville Invitational.

Because of the impending inclement weather Saturday, the second day of the Connersville Invitational was canceled leaving Friday night's diving preliminaries as the only action of the weekend. Jay County High School's Steven Kelly led the boys competition through eight dives.

The final three dives were scheduled for Saturday.

Kelly, a junior, posted a score of 278 through eight dives, taking a 7.9 points lead over Dustin Alexander of East Central. Connersville's David Goins was third at 269.75, and Donny McCowan of the Patriots was fourth at 251.2.

April Acker topped the list of JCHS girls, sitting in fourth place after eight dives. She had 263.35 points, while Jessica Squires had the title locked up with a lead of more than 100 at 411.3.

Nadlie Runyon was in seventh place with 203.35, and Megan Taylor followed in eighth at 199.95.

SA girls lose 5th straight

GARRETT - The recent struggles continued for the South Adams High School girls basketball team Saturday as it lost 61-33 to the Class 2A No. 8 Garrett Railroaders.

The Starfires (3-8, 0-4 Allen County Athletic Conference), who traded wins and losses through the first six games, dropped their fifth in a row after falling behind 16-6 in the opening period. They were still within 12 points entering the fourth quarter before Garrett (8-1, 3-1 ACAC) pulled away.

Madison Diedrich and Lindsey Yarde each scored 12 points to lead the Railroaders. Courtney Wisel joined them in double figures, scoring eight of her 10 points in the first half.

Anne Lehman hit three of her six field-goal attempts as she finished with 12 points and two assists. Ashton Morgan had seven points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block, and Andrea Moser added eight boards, two steals and a block.

Jennifer Miller scored three points as South Adams dropped the junior varsity game 50-7.

Tribe 8th wins first

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team got a big first quarter and picked up its first win of the season Saturday 38-33 over the St. Marys Roughriders. The seventh grade team lost, 35-34.

The Indian eighth graders built an 11-3 first quarter lead. They were up by five at the end of the second and third quarters and held on to improve to 1-5.

Jared Kahlig led Fort Recovery with 14 points, and Jason Pottkotter added 11. Kyle Jutte and Jacob Whitacre chipped in six points apiece.

The Tribe seventh grade team went up 22-14 at the half, but struggled after the break as St. Marys rallied for the one-point win. Chad Schroer scored 12 points for Fort Recovery, and Trent Kaiser finished with eight.

SA 7th falls to Jets

BERNE - South Adams's seventh grade boys basketball team fell 30-14 Saturday to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.

Blake Fox scored eight points for the Starfires in the defeat. Cody Wickey had three points, and Corey Seffernick finished with two.

Runyon dominates

INDIANAPOLIS - Nadlie Runyon won every event Dec. 8 and 9 as Gym City Gymnastics competed at the Sharp's Chalk Bowl Classic.

Runyon, a high school sophomore, posted a top all-around score in Level 8 of 32.575 points. Her top effort came with an 8.75 on the floor exercise, and she added an 8.3 on the balance beam, 7.975 on the vault and 7.55 on the uneven bars.

Courtney Miles was the only other winner for Gym City, taking the Level 5 floor exercise with a 9.25. She was also second on the vault at 8.65.

Riley Leavell was third on the floor (8.675), Katie Snyder placed seventh on the bream (8.4) and Lizzy Schoenlein was eighth on the beam (8.45).
